Mayor Villaraigosa: U.S. must raise the debt ceiling

Continuing his appeal for federal government investments for local projects, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said Sunday it would be "political malpractice" for Congress to fail to reach an agreement on raising the debt ceiling to balance the federal budget.

"Our No. 1 priority is jobs, jobs, jobs," Villaraigosa said during an appearance on CBS' "Face the Nation." "We have to put people back to work. We have to put up $40 billion we will get over the next 40 years that we want to see invested over the next 10 years. It doesn't cost the federal government much and we will pay it back."

But, he said, it will require Congress to agree to increase the debt limit to put the federal budget in balance.

Villaraigosa was the only mayor on the panel, which included three governors: Democrat Deval Patrick of Massachusetts, and Republicans John Kasich of Ohio and Scott Walker of Wisconsin. All four said it was important for the federal government to balance its budget, even if structural reforms are necessary.

Villaraigosa, who was in Aspen for the annual Ideas Festival, said he has had to make significant cuts over the past three years in balancing what is now a $6.9 billion budget.

"We have had to make significant reductions, but we have retained our core services in public safety," he said. "It has not been ideological."

Villaraigosa said he believes next year's elections will be difficult for all incumbents, unless they are able to

reach an agreement and begin improving the nation's economy.

"We are on the verge of jeopardizing the nation's whole credit because Democrats won't address the entitlements of Medicare and Social Security and Republicans don't want to talk about revenues and defense spending," he said. "The fact of the matter is we have to do all of it. If they can't balance the budget they should submit their resignations if they put us in default."

Kasich, who was in Congress in 1996 and was one of the architects of balancing the budget, said it was time for the two parties to begin to work together. He was part of the highly publicized golf foursome two weeks ago with President Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and Republican Speaker John Boehner. Kasich said the outing was an attempt to open dialogue.

"The purpose was to get Republicans and Democrats to begin to talk to one another," Kasich said. "We have lost the ability to talk to people."

Bobbie Ann Mason brings WWII alive in 'Blue Beret'

By Craig Wilson, USA TODAY

Bobbie Ann Mason knows her way around a good story. She has proven that over and over ? in In Country,Nancy Culpepper and her memoir Clear Springs.

Now the PEN/Hemingway Award winner returns with a novel that takes us back to World War II, the Resistance in Nazi-occupied Europe, and the men and women who played out the drama on the world stage. One man in particular.

The novel is based on Mason's father-in-law, Marshall Stone, and his real-life experiences as a gallant, daredevil flyboy who made nine bombing raids over Europe until the fateful day he is brought down, crashing his B-17 into a Belgian farmer's field.

Decades later Stone is forced into retirement ? he flew jumbo jets ? and doesn't know what to do with his life until one day he decides to return to that Belgian field, retracing his war steps. His goal? To reconnect with the Resistance people who helped him survive, especially one young woman, a teenager during the war, who guided him through the back streets of Paris. Yes, the girl in the blue beret.

This is a war story told decades later, helped along by Mason's extensive research in Europe, where she tracked down the real-life heroes herself. Ushering her readers back and forth across the decades, she perfectly weaves history with fiction.

Without giving anything away, let's just say Stone discovers nothing short of amazing revelations about the people who helped him all those years ago, people who risked their lives for him. And along the way Stone discovers a few things about himself.

The Girl in the Blue Beret

In many ways the book is a tribute to these unsung civilians whose heroism often was never acknowledged by those they helped.

As for the girl in the blue beret, he discovers her living near Cognac. A widow. She recognizes him immediately and tells him her family took in other aviateurs during the occupation.

"'You remembered me as the girl in the blue beret. ? Is it not so?'" she said. "'But our signals varied. Sometimes I wore a Scottish scarf. One of the aviateurs wrote me and he remembered me as the girl in the red socks!'

"He (Stone) laughed. "'The girl in the red socks. It doesn't have the same ring to it.'"

Indeed it does not. To him she remained the girl in the blue beret, and a good thing, too. It's a perfect title for this near-perfect war story.

Happy 25th Birthday, Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan turns 25 years old today, and what a year she's had. Make that: What a 25 years she's had. Right now, she's free to celebrate wherever she likes, since her house arrest ended on June 29 (her first night out already triggered a paparazzi frenzy).

A year ago, on her last birthday, LiLo could hardly have predicted the legal sagas that would unfold in the months ahead.

Back in July 2010, just a few days after turning 24, she was sentenced to 90 days in jail, followed by 90 days in rehab, for probation violation stemming from her 2007 DUI. (Lohan's profane manicure made headlines during that court appearance.) She moved into a sober living facility as the start of her jail stint loomed.

She wasn't behind bars long: Booked into jail in handcuffs on July 20, 2010, Lohan was released less than two weeks later and ordered to begin rehab at UCLA Medical Center. But she only served a fraction of that sentence as well, completing treatment in just 23 days. Less than a month later, she was headed back to court, tweeting, "Regrettably, I did in fact fail my most recent drug test..."

She was booked into jail again on Sept. 24, 2010, but a judge overturned the decision, and she left jail the same day when she was granted $300,000 bail. That same month, she settled a lawsuit she'd filed against E-Trade over a commercial in which a baby named "Lindsay" was called a "milkaholic."

Days after getting bailed out of jail, Lohan entered rehab at Betty Ford. In late October, she was ordered to remain in rehab until Jan. 3, 2011. While she was in treatment, 'Inferno' director Matthew Wilder announced Lohan would no longer star in his Linda Lovelace biopic.

In December 2010, less than a month before her release from rehab, Lohan got into a scuffle with Betty Ford staff member Dawn Holland (who was eventually fired for talking to the media, and withdrew her request to press charges).

While she walked out of rehab on schedule, Lohan soon walked right into trouble again when a Venice, Calif., jewelry store accused her in January of stealing a necklace, claiming they had surveillance video of the actress sneaking out of the shop wearing their merchandise. On Feb. 9, Lohan was charged with felony grand theft and pleaded not guilty.

On March 10, 2011, her ninth court appearance in ten months, Lohan was given two weeks to choose between a plea deal or a trial; she soon rejected a plea bargain.

In late April, her theft charge was reduced to a misdemeanor -- she pleaded no contest -- but the actress was given 120 days in jail and 480 hours of community service for probation violation (for being charged with theft in the first place). She posted bail and left the detention center within hours, and due to overcrowding, her sentence turned into house arrest.

During her house arrest, she shot a commercial and hosted a roof party, and then news broke in June that Lohan had tested positive for alcohol. But she was quickly let off the hook on a technicality (she was only supposed to be tested for drugs).

Could the troubled starlet's quarter-century birthday finally mark the beginning of the end of her legal woes? Lohan surely hopes that this year's theme, instead of jail and rehab, will be her long-anticipated career comeback, as she prepares for her role in the John Travolta movie 'Gotti: Three Generations'.

R&B singer Ledisi gains self-confidence with new album

Ledisi performs at the BET Awards on Sunday, June 26, 2011, in Los Angeles. (AP Photo/Matt Sayles)

If there's any message Ledisi wants her fans to take away from her latest album, "Pieces of Me," it's about gaining a sense of self-confidence and self-worth.

"This project is very personal to me," she said in a recent telephone interview. "I want women to hear themselves in the music and find a way to celebrate and embrace who they are."

It's something that Ledisi has finally been able to accomplish in her own life. Early in her career, when Ledisi struggled to make inroads in the business, the New Orleans native started to have doubts about whether she'd fit in, or whether she had what it took to make it as a recording star.

But after the breakthrough success of 2007's "Lost & Found," which garnered her a Grammy nomination for best new artist, and 2009's "Turn Me Loose," which earned her additional Grammy nominations and more success, she's finally feeling confident. The title track, which is the album's first single, gives her audience a glimpse at a woman who's confidently tackling issues of love, intimacy, relationships, respect and empowerment.

"This is a reflection of me as a person, of the person I'm becoming," Ledisi said. "I hope it shows that Ledisi is funny. She is sad. She is spirited. She is very complex. It's about no longer wondering whether I'm worthy of being in this business."

Vocally, she can reign supreme in the R&B world; her stylistic tones also hint upon her penchant for jazz and opera. That versatility

has helped draw acknowledgment from fans (who reach as high as the nation's first lady) as well as from peers, and helped her recognize pieces of herself that had been long-buried.

"All of the producers wanted me to step back and look at what I'd done, to really see eight months later what we had," she recalled. "I was always asking, `Did I do good?' and for the first time, I was able to look back and say `Wow. That is so good.' This project reminded me to stop and smell the roses, to look around outside and really see what I'd done."

Ledisi, who recently wowed at the BET Awards with a masterful tribute to the late Teena Marie, has said that recording the album was therapy for her.

"I've been so happy with the response so far," she said. "I'm hoping that the project will draw younger audiences into the fold with the mix of old and new. It's fiery and uptempo and exciting. It's just great to know that someone out there is listening while in turns builds confidence and reminds me that `Hey, I've still got a little swag.' "

Asked what else might be in her future, Ledisi said she's working on a book, but wouldn't give any details, saying it's still early in the process.

"I'm just nurturing all the different sides of me," she said, laughing. "I can't wait to see what's next."

Ben Affleck Adds Star Power To Film ?Argo?

The star power keeps growing for the new Ben Affleck film, Argo.Already confirmed cast members include John Goodman and Alan Arkin, and Breaking Bad?s Bryan Cranston is apparently in negotiations to join. Then there is, of course, Affleck who is confirmed to both be starring and directing the spy thriller.

The moviedepicts the collaboration of the CIA and Hollywood to help free six hostages trapped in Iran during the 1979 revolution. Although it sounds far-fetched, the film is actually based on a true story in which a fictional movie production was created asa front to help free hostages. As the star power continues to grow for the film, there is already some buzz that it might be a future Oscar contender.

PHOTOS: Jennifer Garner And Daughter Violet Are Twins

Affleck has also been recently linked to the film adaptation of The Great Gatsby, which also features a huge line-up of stars. We shall soon see what the future holds for Affleck, whose film The Town did not make the Oscar cut. In the meantime, Affleck is enjoying some family time. Hewas seen outin Santa Monica alongside wife Jennifer Garner, and their two daughters Violet and Seraphina. The Boston boy is looking grey up above, but he kept it freshwith a Boston Bruinstee.

Kate Middleton and Her Prince: Charming in Canada

Newlyweds the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been charming our neighbors to the north with characteristic grace and style, as their visit to North America continues.

Not only are they spending nine days of the eleven-day tour in Canada (with two days in California before they return home), but since they arrived June 30, they seem to be cramming as many activities as possible into each day there.

Among William and Catherine's flurry of appearances and official duties so far: unveiling a new military mural in Ottawa, testing their culinary skill at a Montreal culinary school, and taking in fireworks at a Canada Day celebration on Friday. Keeping Princess Diana's legacy alive, they also spent time with ailing children in a Quebec cancer ward.

In a touching ceremony on Saturday, reports that the couple planted a hemlock tree on the grounds of Rideau Hall, home of Canada's governor general, in a significant spot: next to an oak tree that William's parents, Charles and Diana, planted on William's first birthday in 1983.

Kate's fashions have been conservative, and her penchant for fascinator hats was seen in a red maple-leaf design she wore to a Canadian citizenship ceremony. See more of the royal couple's first few days in Canada in these photos after the jump.

Ryan Reynolds has few hobbies

Ryan Reynolds' biggest hobby is his career.

The 'Green Lantern' actor - who split from wife Scarlett Johansson in December after two years of marriage - insists he isn't a workaholic, but even in his down time is happy to turn his attention to business calls because making movies is not a difficult profession.

He said: "My hobbies are. work. No, I'm kidding. But I do love to work and my hobby is also my career.

"Am I a workaholic? It depends who you ask. I don't think so. I think when I have time off I really use it, but I work in Hollywood. It's not like I'm a neurosurgeon. I can take a phone call when I'm relaxing."

Ryan admits that as he has gotten older he finds it easier to relax and no longer has to be busy all the time.

He added: "I'm closer to moderation now than I've ever been, but years ago I would have had trouble with that. If it was a vacation I had to climb something or do something, but that's just being younger I think.

"Now I can handle a book and some TV for a while."

Georgia Immigration Law: Thousands Protest For Reform At State Capitol

ATLANTA (AP) -- Thousands of marchers stormed the Georgia Capitol on Saturday to protest the state's new immigration law, which they say creates an unwelcome environment for people of color and those in search of a better life.

Men, women and children of all ages converged on downtown Atlanta for the march and rally, cheering speakers while shading themselves with umbrellas and posters. Capitol police and organizers estimated the crowd at between 8,000 and 14,000. They filled the blocks around the Capitol, holding signs decrying House Bill 87 and reading "Immigration Reform Now!"

Friends Jessica Bamaca and Melany Cordero held a poster that read: "How would you feel if your family got broken apart?"

Bamaca was born in the U.S., but her mother and sister are from Guatemala. She said she fears they will be deported.

"I would be here by myself," said Bamaca, 13. "I have a feeling (the governor) doesn't know the pain affecting families. If he were to be in our position, how would he react?"

Adelina Nicholls, executive director of the Georgia Latino Alliance for Human Rights, said the crowd was sending a message.

"They are ready to fight," Nicholls said. "We need immigration reform, and no HB87 is going to stop us. We have earned the right to be here."

Azadeh Shahshahani of the American Civil Liberties Union of Georgia called the rally inspiring and said she hoped lawmakers would recognize the law's potential to damage the state.

"I think it's going to have an impact," she said. "Unfortunately, the damage has already been done as far as people of color having second thoughts about moving to Georgia."

Several different groups stood with the largely Latino crowd, including representatives from the civil rights movement. The Rev. Timothy McDonald, an activist who has been supportive of immigration protesters, was among the speakers showing his solidarity.

"You are my brothers and my sisters," McDonald told the crowd. "Some years ago, they told people like me we couldn't vote. We did what you are doing today. We are going to send a message to the powers that be ... that when the people get united, there is no government that can stop them. Don't let them turn you around."

MiLi Lai, a student at Emory who is Chinese, also attended the rally because the immigration law doesn't just apply to Latinos, but "all non-American people."

"We are the same community," Lai said. "We have to fight for our rights."

Bellanira Avoytes came to the rally with her husband and three children. Although she is a legal resident and her children were born in Georgia, she does not see herself as separate from undocumented Latinos.

"I have family who are not residents," she said. "I am together with the Latin people. I love Georgia. I have stayed here for 18 years. I want to buy a house here."

Saturday's rally follows a "day without immigrants" organized Friday, when some parts of the law took effect. It was organized by the Georgia Latino Alliance for Human Rights. The organization asked businesses to close and community members not to work or shop to protest the law.

On Monday, a judge temporarily blocked key parts of the law until a legal challenge is resolved. One provision that was blocked authorizes police to check the immigration status of suspects without proper identification. It also authorizes them to detain undocumented immigrants. Another penalizes people who knowingly and willingly transport or harbor undocumented immigrants while committing another crime.

Parts of similar measures in Arizona, Utah and Indiana also have been blocked by the courts.

Provisions that took effect Friday include one that makes it a felony to use false information or documentation when applying for a job. Another provision creates an immigration review board to investigate complaints about government officials not complying with state laws related to undocumented immigration.

Steven Spielberg thinks making films has got easier as technology advances, but he prefers the ''old-fashioned craft'' he grew up with.

Steven Spielberg likes to make films the "old-fashioned way".

The 'E.T.' director began making movies as a child and believes many people can now make films by even using a mobile phone to shoot something, but he prefers older forms of filmmaking.

He said: "All kids have to do these days is take their cellphone, flip it open and make a movie, but I like the way it started.

It was all homemade stuff. If I was a chef, a microwave would be my worst enemy. I would want to do it the old-fashioned way

"It wasn't a point-and-click art form, it was a craft. It involved solvents, photo-chemistry, cutting out poster board with industrial scissors and getting your fingers fused with Elmer's glue.

"It was all homemade stuff. If I was a chef, a microwave would be my worst enemy. I would want to do it the old-fashioned way".

His love of cinema started when his father used to take a camera on holiday with them as a child.

He explained to Empire magazine: "My dad used to film our camping trips. He'd put the camera outside the window as we were driving along, and all you'd see was a blurring, brown motion of the Arizona desert streaking past. It got to the point where I begged him to be the videographer."

Andrew Rubin: Medicare Reform: Give it a Chance (Just One Time)

This week Senators Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) and Tom Coburn (R-Ok.) introduced a proposal to eliminate $600 billion from the Medicare system. They should have been applauded, commended and celebrated around the country. Instead, democrats swiftly rejected their proposal. No questions asked. They were portrayed by liberals as attacking the benefits of seniors and of being out of touch with main stream America. I would argue they may be the most "in touch" members of the Senate. Sadly Americans will not have the opportunity to hear how this proposal could actually maintain Medicare as a viable program for seniors and disabled while addressing its long term funding crisis.

To me, a believer in the healthcare reform legislation, these attacks were unfair, misguided, and quite frankly, downright ridiculous. There is no question the Medicare program is in financial trouble. Whether you are a republican, democrat, or independent, no one can argue the Medicare program has sufficient funds to pay for all the expected benefits for future generations of Americans who will rely on this entitlement program.

While there is nothing simple when it comes to healthcare, Senators Lieberman and Coburn have some rational (and admittedly controversial) ideas for saving the Medicare program including:

1) Raising the Medicare eligibility age to 67 from the current 65;
2) Increasing the premiums for wealthy seniors for their Part B premiums (the doctor portion of the program),
3) Implementing real and meaningful steps to reduce fraud and waste and simplify how healthcare is administered.

This country can no longer afford politics as usual; particularly when it comes to saving Medicare, and the country, from financial ruin. When Medicare was created back in 1965, Americans did not live as long and we did not spend as much on our healthcare as a percentage of gross domestic product. Simply put, healthcare costs were much lower and less significant to our overall economy as they are today. So the idea that we can leave the existing program intact, without making meaningful and structural changes is a flawed argument. While there are certainly many ideas and programs to fix Medicare, I believe it is going to require a full blown overhaul. The creators of Medicare did not intend for the program to bankrupt the country or run out of money in 20 years from now.

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was a meaningful, and in my belief, good start in addressing some of our country's biggest challenges: providing healthcare access to all Americans. However, while there are many initiatives included in the legislation to meet this goal, I believe the law does not adequately provide the mechanisms to save enough money to keep the program viable. The funding issues facing Medicare are as significant now as they were when the act became law in March 2010. As I was a year ago when the law was passed, I am concerned over its long term financial viability.

During the debate over healthcare reform, I was very clear that the legislation being discussed and debated at the time had many flaws. I was also clear in my belief that while the bill was not perfect, it was a very bold and good first step in reforming our healthcare system. Some at that time called me liberal even though I have always been independent. Nor does it make me a conservative because I believe Senators Coburn and Lieberman have a reasonable proposal. It makes me, and others, practical.

If we are going to be able to solve the enormous challenges facing our country, we are going to have to find a way to move past partisan bickering and be open to new ideas. There are some very important issues to consider:

1) The current Medicare program is not sustainable in its current form. We know this because both parties and the Congressional Budget office agree that at some point in near future, if we do not restructure the program, Medicare will run out of money.
2) There is no one good answer to solve this problem. And since there are so many problems and an even greater number of solutions, we are all going to have to accept compromise. Liberals and conservatives, along with independent politicians are going to have to stop the nonsense and sit together to work something out.
3) The rhetoric is wasting valuable time which our country can ill afford.

The current proposal requires compromise and sacrifice from everyone and it will not be easy. We must be willing to try. If for no other reason, Medicare will run out of money and changes will be rushed and forced on all of us. Careful planning will go by the wayside. It's always better to plan ahead and make changes/fix mistakes along the way, particularly when it comes to something as complex as fixing Medicare. Give Senators Lieberman and Coburn a chance to be heard. Ultimately, America may say no to their idea and that is democracy at work. But to silence potentially good ideas without meaningful debate and discussion is a national shame. Further, it prolongs the impression that nothing can be done in Washington. It puts all of us, who will someday rely on the Medicare system, at risk of losing a national safety net that is too important to go away.

McAdams, Sheen turn up PDA on subway

Michael Sheen and Rachel Adams only had eyes for each other during a subway ride in Toronto.

Michael Sheen and Rachel Adams only had eyes for each other during a subway ride in Toronto.

Why bother waiting for hours outside a movie premiere to catch a glimpse of your favorite stars when you can just ride the subway?

One lucky fan spotted lovebirds Michael Sheen, 42, and Rachel McAdams, 32, riding public transportation around the actress' native Toronto earlier this week.

The onlooker snapped a photo of the hands-on twosome and posted it on Twitter, adding that the celebrity couple was "making out and hugging" throughout the ride.

While Sheen looked more hobo than Hollywood, with his unruly hair and overgrown beard, a sunglass-wearing McAdams was simple, yet stylish in a T-shirt, printed leggings and rain boots.

The couple continued their domestic bliss two days later with a trip to a local Whole Foods supermarket to stock up on food and wine.

McAdams is currently in the Canadian city with Sheen, where he is filming his latest movie "Total Recall."

Since making their red-carpet debut as a couple at the Cannes Film Festival in May, the pair appears to be stronger than ever.

Though their romance didn?t blossom until after filming "Midnight in Paris," Sheen credits the Woody Allen-directed film for sparking their relationship.

"I will be forever grateful that it was where I met Rachel," he told E! Online.

"She's talented, intelligent, beautiful. She's warm and friendly," he added to People. "She's very supportive, and very kind, very funny. She makes me laugh a lot."

Maria Shriver Files for Divorce

It's Independence Day for Maria Shriver, who filed for divorce on Friday in Los Angeles from Arnold Schwarzenegger after 25 years of marriage. Her divorce petition cites "irreconcilable differences."

According to multiple reports, there is no prenup.

The news comes six weeks after the former California governor, 63, publicly acknowledged that he fathered a child with a housekeeper. Mildred Baena retired in January after 20 years working for the family.

The power couple allegedly separated when Shriver, 55, moved out of their Brentwood, Calif., mansion upon learning about the paternity of Baena's son, who was born in 1997, days before the birth of Shriver and Schwarzenegger's youngest son, Christopher. In May, Schwarzenegger apologized in a statement: "There are no excuses and I take full responsibility for the hurt I have caused."

Of the couple's four children, two (Katherine and Christina) are now adults. Shriver will likely agree to share custody of Christopher, 13, and Patrick, 17, with her soon-to-be ex.

The Austrian-born movie star and the American broadcast journalist -- who met in 1977 and married in a 1986 Catholic wedding in Massachusetts -- remain on speaking terms, according to TMZ sources, and expect an amicable division of assets.

They allegedly plan to split hundreds of millions of dollars jointly earned during the marriage. TMZ estimates Schwarzenegger's worth at approximately $300 million and Shriver's at $100 million. The divorce will not go to trial if the couple agrees to settle out of court quietly, and details of the final property settlement will likely be confidential.

Shriver, an Emmy and Peabody award winner, was spotted overseas last week in Athens, Greece, greeting Special Olympics athletes with a smile. She flew there to speak at the dedication of a statue of her late mother, Eunice Kennedy Shriver, who founded the Special Olympic Games.,feedConfig,entry&id=762708&pid=762707&uts=1273853626,aolsvc&omni=1&ke=1

"Well its been a good yr too bad its over," the actor, 22, Tweeted Friday, seemingly alluding to his diminished role on the show. "Time for summer and starting fresh."

The rep did not disclose the reason for the decision, but Overstreet might make his way back to the Glee gang as an occasional guest star, a source close to the show tells TV Line, which first reported the news.

So who got the green light for season 3?

Darren Criss, who plays Warbler crooner Blaine, and Harry Shum Jr., who plays dancing machine Mike, were both upgraded to full-time series regulars this fall.

The casting news comes on the heels of a recent promise from creator Ryan Murphy that some of the show's main characters would graduate by the end of season three.

"We didn't want to have a show where they were in high school for eight years," Murphy told Ryan Seacrest on his KIIS-FM radio show last month.

?My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding?s season finale: The craziest wedding ever?

Anybody find it funny that the season finale of a bat-crazy show about British gypsys and their lifelong quest to wed falls on the weekend that Americans celebrate their independence? No? Oh, okay.

Last night TLC?s My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding wrapped up for the summer with possibly their nuttiest episode yet. Mary, an Irish Traveller at the ripe old marrying age of 23, wants a wedding that will ?rival the Royal wedding of William and Kate.? So she enlists the services of renowned Liverpool seamstress and wedding planner, Thelma Madine. How long is she given to organize it, though? Three weeks!

Check out some of the craziest things we learned about the wedding and the Traveller lifestyle.

1) Mary?s plans after marriage: Move into her husband?s trailer and travel throughout the country. Yikes.

2) The wedding cake: Big, pink and shaped like a horse and carriage. With more than 30 feet of icing, bakers Noreen and Jill made their biggest cake ever. The cake table was 24 square feet.

3) The reception venue was an animal shelter. Travellers have an ugly reputation for, um, trashing joints. So hotels and proper locales tend to politely decline when asked to host their events. So Mary?s party was held at a animal rescue center.

4) Mini brides: The brainwashing conditioning starts early in the Traveller community. Two little girls attending the wedding wore replica wedding gowns to look like the bride, planting the seeds for potential teenage-wedding bliss.

Long story short, Mary, her dress, and its 17-foot train made it into the chapel and animal center (which was transformed into quite a lovely hall!) without a hitch. The venue?s coordinator did complain that the guest were way past crass, though. And, alas, it didn?t compete with the Royal wedding. No surprise there.

Did you catch any of the season-long madness? Could you imagine living through all that? Plan on tuning in next season? Let us know.

Scarlett Johansson & Ryan Reynolds Finalize Divorce

Bringing their marriage to a complete conclusion, Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson are officially divorced.

According to TMZ, the "Green Lantern" star and his "Other Boleyn Girl" ex-wife saw their final divorce papers filed at L.A. County Superior Court on Friday (July 1).

Said to be quite the smooth split thanks largely to both parties being young and high earners, neither Johansson nor Reynolds requested spousal support while property gained during marriage is to be split amongst one another 50/50.

With the finalization coming just six months after Reynolds' lawyer Laura Wasser put the legal parting in motion, the divorce was initiated in December 2010 due to "irreconcilable differences" after the pair had married back in September 2008.

Since splitting, Miss Johansson briefly dated actor Sean Penn while Reynolds has been linked to a few new ladies, most recently being tied to fellow recent divorcee Olivia Wilde.

Actress Denise Richards is now the proud mother of three with the adoption of a baby girl.

Whoa, baby! More than half a year after ex Charlie Sheen first stormed front pages with a highly publicized meltdown at the Plaza Hotel, Denise Richards is proving that she's doing just fine without him.

A rep for the actress, 40, confirmed to Us Weekly that Richards is now indeed the proud mother of a weeks-old little sister for daughters Sam, 7, and Lola, 5.

"Eloise Joni Richards is named after Denise's mom (Joni) and Denise and her daughters Sami and Lola chose the name Eloise," the rep said. "Denise and Eloise's big sister couldn't be happier and feel incredibly blessed."

Coincidence? During the time of Sheen's drug-fueled, porn star-infusedmeltdown, Richards and her daughters were ironicallystaying at the Eloise Suite at the Plaza Hotel.

Richards, who has been quietly fulfilling single-parent duties while Sheen frolicks with his goddesses at his Beverly Hills mansion, tweeted her excitement about the news.

"Thank you all for your sweet messages," she wrote. "The girls and I are over the moon and so is my dad Grandpa Irv...xo."

Meanwhile, the troubled actor isn't doing so great, with his last remaining goddess, Natalie Kenly, moving out of his home just last week, and his character on CBS's "Two and a Half Men" being driven off a cliff in the upcoming season.

Additionally, TV's highest paid actor will have to shell out $55,000 a month for child support to his other ex, Brooke Mueller, from his Warner Bros. Television paycheck. The hefty monthly payments will go toward support for Sheens' twin sons, and were part of a divorce settlement he and Mueller reached earlier this year.

Pippa and ex cozy up at Wimbledon

Pippa Middleton and ex beau Alex Loudon seemed to enjoy each other's company Wednesday.

Pippa Middleton and Alex Loudon hardly looked like exes during their jovial outing at Wimbledon Wednesday.

The pair, rumored to have split earlier this month, was photographed laughing and affectionately touching each other as they took in Day Nine of the tennis tournament.

Middleton, 27, brought Loudon, 30, as her date to big sister Kate's wedding to Prince William on April 30.

But following the televised royal nuptials, Middleton saw her fame rise exponentially ? thanks in part to wowing home viewers with her enviable body, flattered by an Alexander McQueen gown.

"Pippa has become very high-profile, and it's put a strain on things," a source had told The Sun on June 13. "They're moving in different circles."

Reports of a breakup were seemingly validated when it became clear Loudon, a cricket player-turned-businessman, hadn't been seen with his brunette beauty for several weeks.

At the sporting event, however, they seemed to be making up for lost time.

Middleton and Loudon walked into the venue with their arms around each other. At one point during the match, in which they sat and chatted with her parents, Loudon rested his arm on her leg.

And according to Us Weekly, he was also seen leaving Middleton's London apartment early Friday morning.

While it's possible the two have rekindled their romance ? or never let it flame out in the first place ? it's also plausible Middleton and Loudon simply parted on good terms.

After all, when she hasn't been with him, Middleton has frequently been seen with another ex: George Percy, the 27-year-old son of the Duke of Northumberland.

The two even attended a tennis game together on June 9.

Perhaps Middleton's true love is reserved for the sport?
